SAINT LOUIS CRYSTAL VASES

The making of a handmade crystal vase takes two groups of people: the Vitrearii (glassblowers and molders) and the Diatretarii (crystal-cutters and crystal engravers). A crystal vase goes first through the stage of Hot Crystal and then through the stage of Cold Crystal.

A crystal vase contains 50% of extra white sand, 17% of potash, and about 28% of lead. Crystal standards require at least 24% of lead in its composition otherwise it may not be named crystal. A crystal vase with at least 24% of lead is heavy, dense, massive, high-sounding, clear, bright, and has a high refraction index. Crystal vases are forever unless we break them.
